Philippine Palace: Romualdez Resignation Won’t Halt Corruption Probe

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang clarified that Leyte First District Representative Martin Romualdez will still face investigation over alleged corruption in flood control projects, regardless of whether he steps down as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Palace officials stated that Romualdez’s resignation would not shield him from accountability. “Resign or not resign, he will still be investigated,” said Castro, emphasizing that if evidence is found, Romualdez should present records to defend himself.
Romualdez is among several lawmakers implicated in the alleged irregularities surrounding massive infrastructure projects. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his stance that no one will be exempt from the probe, including family members or political allies.
The investigation is being led by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure and aims to uncover potential misuse of public funds allocated for flood control initiatives.
