MANILA, Philippines — The Senate announced the postponement of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial due to the need for a restructured House prosecution panel aligned with the 20th Congress.
Senate President Francis Escudero, who will preside over the impeachment court, clarified that the trial cannot proceed until the House forms a new prosecution team. The adjustment follows shifts in congressional membership caused by recent elections and appointments.
Despite the delay, Escudero assured the public that preparations are ongoing. He emphasized the importance of finalizing procedural rules and addressing unresolved questions related to the impeachment complaints. The Senate is expected to move forward with these tasks as the 20th Congress convenes.
