Canada Ends England’s 41-Match Unbeaten Streak with 24-21 Rugby Win

Canada ended England’s 41-game unbeaten run in women’s rugby with a dramatic 24-21 victory at the WXV international match held at BMO Field in Toronto. The match, played in front of a record crowd of 18,621 spectators, saw Canada secure a historic win, serving as redemption after their loss to England in the 2022 Women’s Rugby World Cup final.

England started strong, but their inability to capitalize on several attacking opportunities proved costly. A yellow card to England’s Zoe Harrison opened the door for Canada, with Savannah Bauder scoring the opening try. Despite England’s response through tries by Maddie Feaunati and Harrison, giving them a 14-5 lead at halftime, Canada mounted a determined comeback.

Alysha Corrigan’s solo try early in the second half reduced the deficit, and although Sarah Bern added another try for England, Canada maintained pressure with vigorous attacking play. DaLeaka Menin’s try further intensified the contest, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion.

In the closing minutes, Shoshanah Seumanutafa scored the decisive try, putting Canada ahead 24-21. The Canadian team held their lead, sparking celebrations among players and fans alike. This victory marked a significant turning point, ending England’s four-year dominance in international women’s rugby.

England’s head coach, John Mitchell, acknowledged that the defeat offered valuable lessons and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. The two teams are set to face each other again next weekend, providing England with an immediate chance to recover and Canada an opportunity to build on their historic performance.
