Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has emphasized the importance of strengthening business and investment ties between Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During a visit to Abu Dhabi on October 20, Wong highlighted the potential for increased cooperation between companies and investors from both countries, building on their existing government partnerships.
In his discussions with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Wong explored shared priorities and the exchange of expertise in various sectors. He pointed to the UAE’s energy capabilities, including oil, gas, renewable energy, and nuclear power, as well as its growing investments in artificial intelligence and defense technology, as areas where collaboration could be beneficial. Wong suggested that by combining their strengths, Singapore and the UAE could develop new partnerships and explore emerging industries.
Economic ties between the two nations are already significant. In 2025, bilateral trade in goods reached $27.9 billion, while trade in services totaled $12.8 billion in 2024, establishing the UAE as Singapore’s largest trading partner in the Middle East. This solid foundation provides a platform for further economic cooperation.
Both countries have been actively working to enhance their economic relationship through bilateral business forums and investment initiatives. The recent discussions reflect a mutual interest in expanding commercial links and identifying new opportunities, especially in light of changing global economic conditions.
