Vietnam and Singapore Bolster Strategic Partnership, Enhance Tech Collaboration

As Việt Nam and Singapore work to bolster their relationship, a focus on enhancing political trust and strategic coordination in fields like technology, innovation, and sustainable development is taking center stage. The efforts come as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the bilateral ties have transcended traditional economic connections, moving toward future-focused sectors that promote long-term growth and integration within ASEAN.

In 2025, the relationship between the two nations was officially elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, underscoring the increasing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore stands as one of Việt Nam’s key economic allies and is the country’s second-largest foreign investor. The partnership is exemplified by numerous projects spanning manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.

A prominent example of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is evolving towards greener and more intelligent industrial models in line with sustainable development objectives. Both countries are also ramping up collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, and digital transformation. Efforts are being made to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks between the two nations.

Economic partnership will remain a pivotal aspect of Tô Lâm’s visit, with discussions likely to focus on finance, trade, supply chains, and technology advancement. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to forge stronger ties among governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in fields like artificial intelligence and green technology. The visit is also expected to pave the way for the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.

Additionally, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, one of the region’s premier security forums. Vietnamese officials have interpreted the invitation as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s expanding international role and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and maintaining strategic autonomy.
